Latest project for NC Wildlife Magazine

I’m in my 4th season of creating illustration work for North Carolina Wildlife Magazine. As illustrators, we work several months in advance of when articles are published. These deer illustrations are for an article about the behavior of deer in the fall and the different ways they spread their scent throughout their habitat. They rub their bodies and antlers along tree trunks and branches for other deer to sense.

I learn so much about different types of animals while creating artwork for the wildlife magazine projects. I enjoyed painting the tiny hairs that make up the deer’s coat with layers of dry-brushing technique and including the fall oak tree branch for this illustration that will be published in September.
